Juliet Finished

I finished my Juliet. I think the bottom came out a bit too big (I'm cinching it in for the pic), but it's still a great pattern. More details on my blog.

Juliet Progress and SKC

It doesn't seem like there's been a lot of communication on here lately. At any rate - I've started on Juliet with the Sexy Knitters Club KAL. They're doing both Juliet and the Tree Jacket. Progress pics on my blog. Hope to see you on the SKC site.

New Pattern: Juliet

Well it has been a little quiet over here and I am not sure who knows about the new pattern that just came out!

Juliet

Check it out! :o)

Monday 16 July 2007

Hi everyone! Just wanted to let you know there is a new pattern posted by the Zephyr Style ladies over at http://www.zephyrstyle.com/catalog/item.cfm/2367447/3974520. Called the Tree Jacket, it's a colder-weather design featuring a super-simple lace pattern and less-fitted styling than some of the other patterns. I just bought it this morning and am thinking of maybe using this Brooks Farm Riata from my stash:

What do you think?

Sunday 8 July 2007

Hi everyone,
My name is Robin and I just joined this KAL. I love the Zephyr Style patterns - they're like candy - quick, easy and mindless!! On top of those characteristics, they also usually have a great fit.

I have made Green Gable, Wicked, and Rusted Root previously and I just finished Tube Top-orini.

I have the patterns for Glee, Miss Marigold and may make duplicates of the others I've already made. I look forward to seeing what everyone else is working on!

Ms Marigold

I have started Ms Marigold but put it on hold for while as I wanted to knit Isabella which I more of a summer top. I really like this but fear I may have to frog back some of it as there is a slight flaw in the fabric and it is right in centre of the front. I am using Debbie Bliss Baby Cashermerino in cream for the body and an dusky pink for the ribbing, neck and ruffles.

Wicked

Thanks for letting me join, I'm Sittenknitten in western Colorado. I have Wicked on the needles in Mission Falls 1824 Cotton. It's knitting up very nicely, and I really like the nubby texture from the yarn. It does, however, make my fingers a little sore after awhile, probably something about the way I hold the yarn and needles. There's another Wicked in my future in Cascade 220 for the cooler months, but for now, the cotton is cool and comfy to wear and I'm ready to coast on through the body and "get 'er done!"

I have the pattern for Green Gables here, still deciding on which yarn to use.
Thanks for the inspiration here, KAL's really help keep me from having too many projects going at once.

Best Cast-Off?

I am basically finished with my Rusted Root, and was casting off the bottom today....but afterwards realized that I don't think my cast-off is stretchy enough. I haven't tried it on (I finished knitting in the middle of a staff meeting, so it didn't seem appropriate to do a fashion show then and there!), but I'm afraid it's not going to stretch enough to go on....

Suggestions for the best cast-off for this? I'm up for learning something new if I need to!

a gleeful Hi!

I'm excited to join this KAL! It's great to see everyone's work, there are a few Zephyr sweaters that I'd like to make. Right now I'm working on my first Zephyr pattern - Glee.

I love the simple, top-down pattern (with few seams!) of this sweater. I'm knitting it in the smallest size, and I've decided to make a few simple changes to the pattern: adding some shape to the waist and making 3/4 length sleeves.

As for yarn - I'm using an alpaca silk blend, which is producing a soft, light sweater that will be perfect for summer!

Here's a shot of my work in progress...

Root Finished!

Finished last night and it's bootiful.

Yarn: Debbie Bliss Cotton Angora
Needles: 4mm and 3.75mm Denise Interchangeables

I think I'll give this one to my sis and make another, slightly shorter version for myself.

This one is a little long in the body and a little tight in the arms. I need a looser cast-off as well!

Rusted Root beginning

I did size medium sleeves on a size small body, and it seems to be turning out right, despite my nerves about that. I figure it should fly along pretty quickly now that the sleeves are out of the way....we'll see. I think it's very possible I will only knit tops in the round from now on....I'm really looking forward to being able to wear it as soon as I'm done, and not waiting to sew it up!

I'm in!

So, my cotton fleece finally arrived and I am casting on tonight. After much debating, I decided to start with Rusted Root. Green Gable is high on my list, and I now have a bunch of cotton fleece, so I may do that down the line, too!

Really, I probably should do GG, because the yarn that came today is Moss Green:
Cotton Fleece Moss Green

There is enough of it to do 2 tops, I think, so maybe I'll do both in green. I'd have to make 1 for someone else, though, because I probably shouldn't make myself 2 handknit tops in the exact same colour! :-) Supposedly I have a few skeins of Cotton Fleece in Columbine, a lovely looking blue, coming to me, but since they've been travelling here for about 3 weeks now, I'm not sure they're gonna make it. We shall see...I have asked the seller to track them for me, but haven't heard back.

Soon I will have progress piccies to share...

Rusted Root OTN's

Here is my Rusted Root so far.

One down, another cast on

I finished Wicked this morning.

Please ignore the slightly drunken look. I hadn't been drinking, I was squinting in the sun!! Honest.. *looks shifty*

Here is Wicked all laid out:

My sis tried it on as well and has decided that I will knit her one now too. This isn't as demanding as it sounds, as she's made me a couple of tops as well!!! :)

Info:

Made from Rowan Calmer in Cream. I used just under 4 50g balls to make this, so I'm really impressed with the yardage.

I fudged the stitches here and there as I realised that my gauge was way off. So I started with the 32"-35" size and then found that I needed to increase the sleev shaping to fit my chubby upper arms. So I moved to the next size up. A bit of swapping between the two sizes, in terms of length and sts decreased. It all seemed to work!!! :)

I'm a pattern follower normally, so to have to think for myself and make this work was a bit daunting. :-D

Another Wicked

I just started this Wicked on Saturday. The first few decreases looked awful and I frogged back to the ribbing on Sunday and investigated a few different types of double increase. However, a useful book I've borrowed form my mum showed the increase as written looking lovely, so I tried again, paying more attention to the increases, and now I love the way it's working. This is going really quickly so far, quick enough for me not to mind the endless stocking stitch too much. The progress picture was taken on Monday morning, and I am now just at the point where the arms split off.

Rusted Root Finished

I have finished my Rusted Root. I am very happy with the outcome. I did 15 lace pattern repeats for the body and am happy with the length. I have more details on my blog as well. I've already purchased Glee but have a few other patterns to finish first. Still, the Zephyr Style patterns are my favorites for sure.

More Rusted Root Progress

Here's another update of my progress on Rusted Root. I'm at the 12th lace detail pattern and will probably do a total of 14 judging other FOs of women that are on the taller side. More details on my blog. It is getting down to the wire for my Vegas trip, so I'll need to speed things up. lol

Wicked!

That's me in a nutshell, me thinks! :D

I have started Wicked in Rowan Calmer... Started late last night, hence the lack of piccies..

I shall work on it some more tonight and then put up piccies...

So far the pattern is really lovely and the yarn is oh so scrummy.. my new favourite. For now anyway!! :)

My second green gable

I decided to go for another green gable with my pink brown sheep cotton fleece. This time I knit the ribbed borders. I actually finished it on Saturday, but due to my parents being here, I've only just gotten round to blocking it!!! Now, what to knit next ...... ?

More Progress on Rusted Root

Here's my progress of Rusted Root so far. I'm hoping to have this completed by Friday for my trip to Vegas! I finished the neckline and sleeves which helps me see how the piece is shaping it up.If all keeps going this smoothly, my next post will be another 2007 FO.

Green Gable

I woke up this morning to a lovely parcel in the post...

This is what was inside:

Please excuse the creases, I've been wearing it this morning!! :)

Cairi made this and I am so pleased with it... Stunning colour, fabulous knitting and it's not coming off..

New Button for Zephyr Style KAL

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

So I created a button for the knitalong. It's pretty rudimentary, but at least we'll be able to add it to our blogs in case more knitters want to join. If you go to my blog you can use the button to be redirected to the Zephyr Style KAL site. Here's the code for where the image is located:

Rusted Root Progress and Pics

Here is what I have done so far on my Rusted Root. I'm very pleased so far. I have more details on my blog. The color is not quite so deep, but still beautiful. I'm using cotton fleece in Candy Apple. I think this will be a quick knit now that I am comfortable with the lace pattern section. Of course, only time will tell. I'll keep y'all posted.

Monday 2 April 2007

KAL Button?

I was just updating my blog and realize b/c this group is so new that we do not have a KAL button. Will we get one soon?? Would love to add it!

Also, I am on Part D of my Ms. Marigold, but not worthy enough to post a progress pic yet! :o)

Will keep y'all posted!

Friday 30 March 2007

Rusted root finished

I'm really happy to finish this with no errors on the lace knitting at all for once. I've been knitting a year, and this is my most complicated pattern to date. But it's so well written, that even I could manage it. I used the brown sheep cotton fleece in new age teal, which is lovely to work with, and even nicer to wear.

I now need to decide whether to knit a second green gable with some cherry colour cotton fleece, or try the marigold pattern. Any ideas?? I'm always so indecisive.

New to the Zephyr Style KAL

Hello all,

I am new to this KAL, but am very excited. So far (this year) I have finished three Zephyr girl patterns: Green Gable, Wicked, and Ms. Marigold. You can see pics of them under the 2007 FOs on my blog. I'm planning on starting Rusted Root on Sunday. I really enjoy their patterns and hope they start banging out a few more new ones since I'm running through their patterns pretty fast.

Happy to join,

Susan

Hello ladies!

Thanks for having me. I've recently put aside Wicked to finish up a capelet for my grandmother's birthday gift. And of course, it is now way too hot in Florida to even think of Wicked in wool. Soo, I've managed to snag some half price cotton fleece in olive green for Rusted Root. I'm hoping to knit like a maniac this weekend, finish up the capelet, and cast on for Rusted Root soon. But I tend to hope a lot. :P

Ms. Marigold

*Hello!* Thanks for the add on the KAL!! I was excited to see the group!

My name is Stacey a.k.a. Crimson Purl (come visit my personal blog!) :o)

I am starting on Ms. Marigold - has anyone knitted up this pattern?

http://www.zephyrstyle.com/catalog/item/2367447/2803300.htm

I simply love Zephyr patterns b/c they knit from the top down and there is no seaming...I detest seaming! This is my 1st Zephyr pattern to try out! And my 1st time trying a sweater!

I have heard alot of people doing Wicked or Green Gable so I decided to pick something different, especially with spring/summer coming soon!

So because I hear so much about the 'ease' of these patterns I thought I would give it a try!

I am typically a "seasonal" knitter and figured I would try Ms. Marigold out to keep me motivated during the spring and summer.

I received my yarn online from
www.elann.com and BOY! I saved my cost by half! 50%! Unbelievable! I picked a deep purple (eggplant) color that is 80% Baby Alpaca 20% Silk and it is just luscious!

Did I say it was just luscious!!

It is soooooooo soft!

Dilemea: The yardage needed for an XL size is recommended at 770 yards for 7 balls.
I ordered 7 balls of 763 yards........(each ball is 109 vs. 110). I wonder if I will truly need the extra 7 yards that I am missing? I wonder how much yarn is truly left over???

So of course I posted this lovely question on their message board on Friday night with no answer! *grr*

Anyway - What really attracted me to the pattern was the cute ruffles on top of the sleeves....well how about I am going to have to learn how to crochet!! >: That was not in the plan! I thought that was the whole point! But I won't dwell on that right now!

So I figured I would try to do things right and actually do my very 1st gauge! *gasp* Yep, I have never ever done one and never felt a need to before; but since this is a garment to wear I figured I better do the right thing and try my gauge out...so I have a question:

The pattern said it should measure 4 inches...it does if I stretch it just a tad! :0) The question is that okay?? I didn't think it was that serious right? Figured I could stick to this needle size.

Well I plan to CO on tomorrow and will post another update soon!

Can't wait to interact with you ladies!

Next zephyr project!!

Well, I hope I don't jinx myself by announcing this, but this evening I cast on for my next project, the rusted root top. This time I am using cotton fleece, in the teal colour. This one is going to take me a while to knit, but I hope it will be done in time for summer!! I've only done 10 rows, but am already up to 178 sts on the needles. I may need to buy more addi turbo bamboos. I even tried a new cast on from the Montse Stanley book - the twisted loop cast on.

Finished!!

Thursday 15 March 2007

yippee. Managed to log in. got my yarn sorted...green Debbie Bliss Cathay...so swatching tonight!

Tuesday 13 March 2007

Progress piccies

I thought I'd put up a few photos, as I'm having doubts about how the DB Cathay is knitting up. Below is the complete article, and it doesn't look too bad at a distance!!
Close ups of the lace section. My first lace pattern on a garment - yay!!
This last one I've upt up, cos this is why I'm not sure about the yarn, because it seems to be separating after I've knit it, not to mention during!!
What do you reckon, should I plod on with it and risk it looking a bit scruffy like this, or should I get the cotton fleece?

Monday 12 March 2007

and now 3 of us!!!

I did my tension square last night, and after expert advice, I am about to cast on tonight in DB cathay in a purple colour on 4mm needles. Given my past experience with frogging lace patterns, I hope this one goes ok, but I've read the pattern and think I can manage YO, K2tog.

I've never done backward loop cast on either, but just had a go and think I've got it. Mine looks a bit loopy though, is it meant to be so? *feels a bit dim today* ;)
